Porsche 917 AKA The Car That Killed Can-Am Racing

In the hearts and minds of many, the Porsche 917 represented the pinnacle of Porsche's motorsports history and it is considered to be one of the most extreme road race cars ever created, even after almost four decades of being in retirement.

Despite its poor performance during its initial developmental period, the 917 soon reigned victorious after its debut on the racing circuits, earning 1st overall wins at both of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 and 1971. Later in 1972-73, the revised 917s dominated the Can-Am series in a similar fashion and became widely known as "The Car That Killed Can-Am-Racing".

In its most aggressive trim, with the aid of its twin-turbochargers force feeding air into twelve horizontally opposed cylinders at the stratospheric boost pressure of 39 psi, the 917 can produce upwards of 1,500 horsepower. With this amount of power, the 917 can accelerate to 60 miles per hour at 1.9 seconds from a standstill and has a top speed of 257 mph. Such numbers still commands nothing but awe and utmost respect to this very day.

However, as we all know, power isn't everything. Alot of drivers have had difficulty harnessing its power and have described the driving experience as fightentning due to primitive aerodynamics.

Porsche 997 GT3 RS

As Porsche is starting to become boring and uninteresting to many due to the apparent lack of evolution in the 911 series over the years, I must admit that the 911 GT3 RS in the Orange color scheme above is by far my favorite, most exciting Porsche ever made, with the exception of the modified ones and the Carerra GT supercar.

Porsche makes the best commercials. Maybe Lamborghini should take a hint or two.

Friday Night ClubLexus Meet @ Platinum VIP Motors, Irwindale

While the rest of the world typically spend their Friday nights out partying or mingling around with the opposite sex, a few die-hard ClubLexus members have instead been sacrificing their social lives to meet up together almost every Friday night at the local strip mall parking lots to hang out and chat about their beloved cars. Despite being respectful and not a public nuisance to anybody else, like a nomadic tribe, they are constantly on the move to find a different spot due to harassment by strip mall security or other ricers invading the same space and attracting negative attention by performing moronic and unnecessary acts such as ricer-fly-bys or burnouts in public.

For many weeks, the weekly congregation was canceled due to lack of a suitable location. Until this past weekend, the ClubLexus Friday Night Meet has a new home as Platinum VIP in Irwindale was kind enough to host the weekly meet for the first time. Special thanks goes to Kennedy, owner of Platinum VIP, and the rest of the crew! Enjoy the pictures and keep in mind that the technological limits of my crude Canon XTi DSLR was pushed to the extreme as many of the shots were hand-held at f/4 1600 ISO.
